Updated: Mar 8

As you already know, hurricane season is upon us.  That said we have listed some helpful resources for tutors to share with their students. This information can serve as part of a lesson plan where students can cover new vocabulary, practice reading comprehension, as well as inform themselves of some hurricane preparedness basics.

The National Hurricane Center

This website is a one-stop-shop for hurricane information and preparation! It contains, mapping systems, check lists, pre, during and post preparation advice and much more.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

Learn about hurricanes and other weather events with this educational website! From hurricane facts to homeowner's handbooks and hurricane trackers, this site provides easy to read articles for learners.

Ascension Parish Hurricane Preparedness

Are you looking for information a little closer to home? The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office website provides information regarding understanding hurricanes, safety and insurance tips. It also provides a link to the National Weather Service Hurricane Center where you can track a storm’s movements.

Go Bags

AARP has created a list of essential items you should consider keeping in a bag just in case you have to evacuate. The list includes items such as a change of clothes, meds, as well as insurance and credit card information that you may need should you have to evacuate your home at a moment’s notice.
